A plane allegedly carrying bags containing nine million U.S. dollars has been intercepted at Adan-Adde International Airport on Sunday.
Somali security officials at the airport have confiscated the plane which was said to have flown from United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 2:pm of Mogadishu’s local time.
According to reliable sources, the airplane was loaded with $9,600,000.
Reports say several government officials including ministers and UAE’s ambassador to Somalia have reached the airport.
The consignment was reportedly en route to Puntland state and South of the country.
The reports also claimed the Arabian Peninsula nation notified the Federal Government of Somalia about the money earlier.
UAE was said to have claimed the money was heading to its Mission in Somalia and meant to implement its developmental projects in Somalia.
The development comes a time the two countries are at loggerheads over the controversial Port deals between DP World deal with Somaliland as well as that P&O Port and Puntland state.
