BELEDWEYNE ( Halbeeg News) – Somali Police Force in Beled-Weyne has foiled a land mine implanted along the city road linking to the airport.
Security officials said they successfully dismantled the device following a tipoff from the members of the public.
One suspect was arrested in connection to the incident following security operations conducted in and around the neighborhood of the scene of the crime.
It is not immediately clear who was behind the case but armed group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for several similar land mine attacks that targeted government officials and members of the Somali security agencies in Hiiran region.
The armed group has intensified it hit and run tactics in the past months following an offensive by Somali National Army that pushed the group out of key areas in the Lower Shabelle region.
