MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali police have detained a suspected al-Shabaab in connection with the blast in Mogadishu.
In a statement, Somali police deputy chief, Zakiya Hussein said the police seized a man suspected to be driving a vehicle packed with explosives which exploded Hamar weyne district of Mogadishu.
According to the police report, the car was parked in an open area.
“The police detained the perpetrator who was driving the vehicle (which exploded),” she said.
In her initial report, Ms Hussein said the police arrested two suspects for the blast in Mogadishu.
It is not yet clear whether the driver was among the two individuals arrested by the police.
“At around 7 pm, (an IED) car has exploded in an opened area behind the headquarters of transport Sacco in Hamarweyne district,” she said.
She confirmed that the blast had not caused casualties.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack saying the blast hit its target.
