MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali police have arrested suspected suicide bomber after a car he was driving went off in Mogadishu.
The vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) exploded in Saturday at a security checkpoint at Km4 junction.
In a Twitter post, Somali deputy police chief, Zakia Hussein confirmed the arrest of the suspect and the blast saying explosion did cause casualties.
“The driver of the VBIED has been apprehended, and no casualties were resulting from the blast,” Hussein said in a statement.
She said another separate VBIED went off near Sayid Junction and promised to provide more details concerning the attack, the latest in the restive capital, Mogadishu.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The explosions which shuttered a monthlong peace in the capital amid Somali security forces stepped up security operations to smoke al-Shabaab members and its sympathizers in Mogadishu.
