MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali pice have arrested three suspected al-Shabaab operatives duning an inspection in Deynile district of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to the police sources, the trio who were riding an authorickshow were nabbbed after the police inspected their tri-cycle motor.
The officers recovered an RPG which was concealed in the authorickshow. The suspects are current held Deynile police station.
Somali police have recently intensified operations to hunt down al-Shabaab operatives and the sypathisers in the capital following deadly attacks staged by al-Shabaab in Mogadishu.
The group has been fighting Somali government and AU mission for more than a decade. Al-Shabaab attacked military bases manned by Somali National Army and AU forces outside the capital.
Dozens of government institutions and hotels were attacked by the group’s fighters, killings hundreds of people including civilians.
Last July, Somali military backed by local clan militias launched operations against al-Shabaab fighters in south-central Somalia. The allied forces liberated dozens of villages and towns in Hiiraan, Galgadud, Mudug and Middle Shabelle regions.
The forces claimed to have killed hundreds of fighters during the operations against al-Shabaab.
