Somali Police officers have arrested at least 10 people in connection with the killing of a government soldier in Afgooye, 30km away southwest of Somali capital.
Unidentified armed men gunned down security officer last night at Afgooye Khat Market of Lower Shabelle region.
Afgooye Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS), Abdikadir Osman Nunow said the police nabbed the suspects near the scene of the crime.
“After the under of the officer, the police launched an operation that saw the arrest of prime suspects,”Nunow said.
He confirmed that the suspects will be taken to court after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
“The suspects will be arraigned on charges of murder after the conclusion of the investigations,” he noted.
The officer urged the public to work with the police to maintain law and order in the district.
“We called upon the residents of Afgooye town to collaborate with the law enforcement agencies to tighten the security of the town,” he urged.
Al-Shabab hit squad teams have stepped up killing of the government officials and soldiers since the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
