MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali police have arrested over 70 people suspected to have a link with al-Shabaab in the Somali capital, Mogadishu and environs.
In operation on Sunday, the police nabbed the suspects and several other individuals.
Speaking to the media, deputy chief of Somali police, Zakiya Hussein said the individuals were detained after the police received reliable information.
Among those arrested are four people who wanted as per the information of the police.
“The officers have carried out operations to secure the city, during the operation, the officers have detained suspected people,” she said.
According to Ms. Zakiya, in operations on Saturday, over 65 people have been taken into custody including 60 who were arrested from Weydow area.
“The agencies detained 69 people, an investigation is underway, those found involving in crime will be taken the court, and those who do not commit will be freed,” she said.
The officer said the police arrested a man suspected to have killed a district officer.
“The security agencies detained the alleged mastermind of the assassination of the district officer in Hamarweyne district. The officers also arrested people suspected to be al-Shabaab,” she stated.
