MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister, Hamsa Abdi Barre warned against undermining the operations against al-Shabaab in central Somalia, saying the government will not accept elements to block the war on terror.
PM Barre visited the National Army’s command center in the Adan-Yabal district of Hirshabelle State on Wednesday to boost the morale of the forces fighting against al-Shabaab.
“This struggle for which you have sacrificed a lot of blood is not acceptable to be undermined. Everyone is accountable for their responsibility, and you are heroes who are ready to fight against their enemies in the most difficult circumstances. You are dying and starving for your country. you are defending the country against the enemy” the PM said.
The remarks of the PM come barely a day after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud vowed that the military operations against al-Shabaab will continue until a complete victory is secured.
“Whether one battlefield is lost, or misinformation is spread, the fight will go on. It’s not going to stop, and we’re not going back,” the president said. “We will achieve the ultimate victory and the most important thing is to win the game. The endgame is near.”
Somali government is preparing to launch the second phase of operations to liberate all areas under al-Shabaab control.
Early this year, Somalia, and its neighbours (Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya) agreed to conduct a significant joint military offensive against Al-Shabaab dubbed “Operation Black Lion” to liberate remaining territories under the militants’ control to not only stabilise the Horn of Africa country but also secure the region.
The agreement was reached at a summit hosted by Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and attended by the Heads of State of Kenya, Djibouti, and Ethiopia.
