MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre is expected to travel to the United States early next week.
According to the letter seen by Halbeeg News, the prime minister and his delegation will be travelling to Washington.
The premier will hold talks with officials from the International Monetary Fund on Somalia’s bid to cancel its international debts.
During the meetings between Somali leader and officials will focus on ways to support Somalia’s economy bounce back on its feet.
Prime Minister Kheyre will also meet with World Bank officials to talk about Somalia’s fiscal and economic process in recent months.
Somali government which struggles to revive its defunct infrastructures has not made a service or amortisation payment since the 1990s.
Under tight scrutiny, the country is recovering slowly from two decades old civil war, plans to pay the external debt of about $5.2 billion, according to IMF.
Late last year, members of the House of People of the Somali parliament approved the 2019 budget.
The country’s budget was standing at $340 million, the highest since Somalia adopted federalism.
The government said that it expects to raise $189.9m which is 55.8per cent of the budget through local taxation.
The donor community will raise the remainder of $124.6m which is 44.2 per cent.
