MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre will travel to Washington DC for talks with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
A delegation led by Prime Minister Kheyre will fly out of the country in the forthcoming hours to reach Washington DC on 8th of this month, according to schedule seen by Halbeeg News.
In a Twitter post, the PM announced that he would be departing to Washington DC for his meeting with IMF and World Bank officials.
“I’m departing for the USA today accompanied by top Gov officials to attend series of spring meetings with International Financial Institutions, Senior US GOV officials & other partners of Somalia, with a view to putting more impetus into our national reforms agenda,” the premier said in a post.
During the meeting, Somali leader and IMF officials will focus on ways to support Somalia’s economic recovery.
The Premier will also meet with World Bank officials to talk about Somalia’s fiscal and economic process in recent months.
Somali government which struggles to revive its defunct infrastructures has not made a service or amortization payment since the 1990s.
Under tight scrutiny, the country is recovering slowly from two decades old civil war, plans to pay the external debt of about $5.2 billion, according to IMF.
Late last year, members of the House of People of the Somali parliament approved the 2019 budget.
