Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire accompanied by high rank officials in his government paid visit to the flood victims after long hours of heavy rains pounded Mogadishu.
Heavy downpour and floods witnessed in and around Mogadishu have led to death and displacement of many of people in the city.
PM Kheire who spoke to large number people displaced by the flood promised that his administration will continue supporting them and other flood victims to rebuild their lives.
“I am saddened by the accident. The government will help them get back to their normal lives alongside others in the country hit hard by floods,” he said.
During last night’s visit, Mr. Kheire was accompanied by the country’s Security Minister, Mohamed Abukar Islow, Mogadishu Mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman and several other officials.
Hundreds of families majority of them being IDPs in different parts of the town were displaced after their homes have been inundated with flash floods following the heavy rains.
Speaking to the media, Maryam Hussein Ali, a flood victim said many families in Bulahubay suburb were rendered homeless after their houses were swept away by raging waters.
“Our belongings and foodstuff were washed away by floods. Our houses have been inundated and we are going spend the night in cold because we have nowhere to go,” said Ali.
She urged the government and donor agencies to move with speed in providing food and non-food items saying the worst affected by the floods are children, elderly and women.
