MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire has held a meeting with UN officials in Mogadishu.
UN delegation led by Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Bintou Keita on Saturday arrived in Somali capital to assess the progress achieved.
The prime minister received Ms. Keita at the office where they discussed wide range issues.
Among the issues discussed are security, Somali government’s preparation to take over security from AMISOM.
Ms. Keita pledged that the UN will support Somalia in the process to restore peace in the country.
The visit of the delegation comes at a time Somali government is trying to fully equip its forces to take in charge of the country’s security after AU pulls out security from Somalia.
Since last year, the first batch of withdrawal of AU troops was done on pro-rata basis, with Uganda with the highest number of troops (6,223) withdrawing 250, followed by Burundi’s 5,432 troops which released 217.
Ethiopia with 4,395 troops shed off 176, Kenya’s 3,664 released 146 and Djibouti with the least number of 1,000 troops released 40.
