MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble welcomed the release of the revised schedule for Somalia’s parliamentary elections.
In a statement, the prime minister Roble called for concerted efforts to realise the aspirations of the ‘Somali people who are waiting for peaceful, transparent, free and fair election’.
“I commend the electoral schedule released by the Federal Indirect Election Team (FIET) with respect to the election of the Senate and The House of People 2021. I urge stakeholders and partners to support the expeditious organization of the federal elections,” the statement reads in part.
Prime Minister Roble commended the regional governments for their efforts and called on them to keep the election timetable on track.
Roble also thanked the international community and urged them to support the electoral process.
On Friday , Somalia’s Federal Indirect Election Team (FIET) has released a revised version of the elections timetable for the election of country’s Parliament.
According to the timetable, the finalized list of Senatorial candidates is to be announced on July 24. Federal Member State parliaments will elect Senators between July 25 and July 28 and the results will be announced on August 1.
Candidates wishing to contest for parliamentary seats should submit their names and payments from September 2-7.
The elections of Lower House members will be held from September 12 to October 2. Each MP will be elected by 101 delegates.
275 elected MPs will be sworn in on October 7. The country’s presidential election is also expected to take place on October 10.
