MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – – Somali Prime minister, Hamze Abdi Barre has directed Mogadishu authorities to enhance the security of the capital.
The Premier held talks with officials from the Banadir region. The Prime Minister highlighted the need for increased security awareness in the face of the fight against extremist groups, and he made it clear that accountability for security issues has been increased.
The meeting comes less than a month after armed al-Shabaab fighters stormed the office of the Mogadishu governor office. Five-hour-long fighting with security forces, al-Shabaab killed people and several others.
The security forces ended the siege and killed the assailants.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting to topple the Somali government since 2006 when the group was formed.
The group which an al-Qaeda-affiliated now controls dozens of villages and towns in southern Somalia.
