The members of Somali federal parliament are expected to have their first session in the Parliament building on Saturday since Jawari stepped down from the office.
The immediate former Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari resigned from the office early this month following a month-long political stand-off caused by a motion against him which lodged last month.
The lawmakers will be debating on the way forward to prepare fresh speakership election.
According to sources, in today’s sitting, the Lower House members will choose a parliamentary election committee.
The poll body will be tasked to set date for the election of the speakership.
According to the House Standing Orders, the election of the speaker would have been held within 15 days from the date Jawari stepped down.
The election of the speaker is scheduled to take place before the end of this month.
The Parliamentary Interim Election Committee will also state time for candidate speeches for the contenders of the office before the election kicks off.
So far four Parliamentarians have declared their candidature for the post vacated by Mohamed Osman Jawari
