The Somali Federal Parliament is set to debate on the no cofidence motion against the Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari which was submitted to the 1st Deputy Speaker, on Wednesday.
Following a month-long political stand-off, the first Deputy Speaker, Abdiweli Sheikh Mudey announced that the house session will be held tomorrow.
(The acting Lower House Speaker and the first Deputy Speaker informs all the Parliamentarians that there will be a House session on Wednesday (tomorrow) 04/04/2018 at 9:00 in the morning (local time). The agenda will be the motion against the Speaker of the People’s House,” reads statement from the office of the 1st Deputy Speaker.
The proceedings of the motion, however, were disrupted several times following political tensions ravaged within the Parliament.
The motion was first submitted to the leadership of the parliament last month but was delayed severally.
The proposition which was supposed to be debated on last Saturday was put off following the intervention of the president to ease the escalating tension.
On Saturday evening, the proponents of the motion have announced that over 184 MPs had appended their signatures to the motion which is the requisite quorum to oust the speaker.
The MPs accused the Speaker of violating the country’s Provisional Constitution and the House Standing Orders.
According to the constitution, the motion needs 184 of 275 of Lower House Members to oust the speaker.
The Speaker and his deputies shall be elected through a secret ballot by a minority of the Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament, and may be removed by a two thirds of the Members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament,” section 4 of the article 65 of the constitution.
