MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) – Somali opposition leaders have called upon the government to ensure the realization of free and fair elections in the country.
The leaders renewed their calls during a press briefing in the capital Mogadishu.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also condemned what he termed as the use of force by the security agencies during a protest in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
“Authorities must respect the rule of law and the constitution; the security agencies must free the detained protesters.”
The sentiment by the politicians comes as Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble continues his trip across regional administration in consultation with leaders on the consensus poll process.
The premier in Dhusamareb where he met Galmudug leader Ahmed Kariye Qorqor.
The two sides discussed ways to resolve the ongoing election stalemate which led to the poll delay.
Meanwhile speaking during the Somali women’s conference the Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Gulaid repeated his government calls to conduct transparent and peaceful elections.
Gulaid said President Farmajo showed leadership and responsibility by employing concessions in various differences with the political spectrum in the country.
