ANKARA, (Halbeeg News) – The federal government of Somalia’s officials arrived in Ankara Sunday for renewed talks with Ethiopia aimed at resolving their diplomatic tiff over the Somaliland port deal.
The deal, which could allow Ethiopia to access Somalia’s coastal waters has created tension between the two states – threatening regional stability.
Mogadishu has launched complaints, calling on the international community to denounce the deal saying Somaliland is an inseparable part of its territory, and the notion of Ethiopia recognizing its independence is unacceptable.
Turkey has reaffirmed its commitment to easing the tensions between the two countries urging Ethiopia to take steps that would address Somalia’s concerns.
The Middle Eastern country also has publicly reassured Somalia that ongoing efforts are aimed at ensuring Somali unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
