MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military court in Jubbaland state has executed a government soldier who was found guilty of killing an elder.
According to a statement issued by the court, Mr Abdirizak Omar Abdullahi was executed after he was found guilty of killing Hassan Goolo, a famous traditional elder in Kismayo on 27th October 2018.
The soldier was executed in an open area under firing squad as dozens of civilians watched the event.
Somali military court has sentenced Mr. Abdullahi to death this month after the court saw the evidence and listened to the witnesses.
This is not the first time the military court has sentenced to death members of the armed forces for murdering civilians.
The military court often carries out sentences and executions against members of Al-Shabaab and government soldiers who commit crimes despite condemnation from human rights groups and the international community.
