MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Somali military court ordered the release of radio journalist Mohamed Abdiwahab Nur Abuja on Wednesday.
The court said the charges level against him which were murder and being a member of armed group al Shabaab was not accurate.
He was granted freedom from Mogadishu central prison where he was in custody in the past five months awaiting trial.
His family members and activists who were present during the verdict in Mogadishu welcomed the court’s decision to acquit the journalist of the charges.
The media advocacy group such as the Somali Journalist Syndicate (SJS) and Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) through defense lawyers demanded compensation from Somali National Intelligence Agency (NISA).
The Federal Government of Somalia didn’t comment on the calls for compensation.
