MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 12 Al-Shabaab suspects have been nabbed in an operation conducted in Afgooye town a day after seven people were killed in Al-Shabaab raid
On Friday, Somali forces repelled Al-Shabaab fighters who stormed military base Afgooye town.
Omar Dhere, the commander of 12th April Battalion of Somali military who spoke to media said the forces detained several people suspected to have been fighting alongside Al-Shabaab.
“In a covert operation conducted in Afgooye after Friday’s Al-Shabaab attack, Somali soldiers nabbed more than 12 people who are Al-Shabaab fighters. We are investigating the matter,” Mr. Dhere said.
Mr. Dhere pointed out that the forces seized a deadly cache of weapon from a house in Afgooye in which it is believed a spate of attacks were planned and executed.
“We captured a huge cache of weapons hidden in a house Afgooye town. We are still conducting the operations to hunt down the Al-Shabaab operatives in the town,” he said.
Afgoye is an agricultural and strategic town in the Lower – Shabelle region, located 30km (18 miles) from Mogadishu.
In 2012, government soldiers and AMISOM troops drove Al-Shabaab out of the town following a major offensive,
