MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The Speaker of the Somali Lower House of parliament, ambassador Mohamed Mursal Sheikh together with the first deputy speaker of the House, Abdiweli Sheikh Mudey toured the newly built assembly hall in Villa Hargeysa.
Accompanied by the ambassador of Turkey, Mehmet Yilmaz and officials from Turkish international development agency, TIKA the leaders were briefed by the engineers who are on the final touches on the what will be the temporary base for the House business till the national assembly building is renovated.
According to the secretary of the Somali national assembly, Abdikarim Hajji Buh, the members will convene in the new house in the fifth session of the lawmaking department.
Somali parliament and TIKA signed agreement on March last year in a contract that will see the construction of a new parliament building that will consist of 7 floors.
The House sessions and other parliamentary activities will initially take place in the first two floors to be constructed, others will host office for each member of the house, parking lot and workplace for various house business committee.
Former speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari and TIKA director, Galib Yilmaz signed the agreement.
Once the construction of the temporary parliament building is completed, the construction of the main parliament building will be initiated.
