DHUSAMAREEB (Halbeeg News) – The federal government and some of the regional states have stricken a deal on a poll model that involves electoral caucuses.
According to a communique, president Mohamed Abdullahi and leaders of Galmudug, Southwest, Hirshabelle states and Benadir agreed each Caucus of 301 delegates will elect each MP.
The agreement stipulates that delegates will be nominated jointly by national and federal state electoral bodies.
In a Twitter, the President welcomed the deal and urged other regional states to follow suit.
“Tonight in Dhusamareb, I have reached an agreement on elections with federal member states and the Banadir region which I hope will lead the country to a fair and timely election. I invite brothers who were absent during the process to join us,” the president said.
Jubbaland and Puntland State leaders did not turn up during the meeting in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug state.
The agreement indicates that deal will have to be approved by House of the People of Parliament.
