Mr. Gafow who was elected from Galmudug State has handed his resignation letter to the chairperson of Somali National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC), Halimo Yarey.

Mr. Gafow is the young brother of Abdullahi Gafow who served as the country’s former chief of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
Last year, Widespread corruption and election rigging were reported to have marred the electoral process of the parliamentary seat won by Mr. Gafow in late 2016 after Mr. Abdullahi who was then NISA chief was said to have interfered with the process in order to secure the seat for his brother.
The electoral body nullified his election victory citing election malpractice.
