MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Internal Security minister, Mohamed Abukar Islow has vowed that the government will continue operation to hunt down al-Shabaab and its sympathisers in Somalia’s capital city, Mogadishu.
Addressing Somali forces last night during a tour to different suburbs of Mogadishu, the minister lauded the forces for their commitment to stabilising the city.
“We proud of you; you are doing a great job to keep this city safe. The government will make sure this town becomes peace and will tighten the security of the capital,” he said.
During the tour, the minister was accompanied by Mogadishu mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman, Mogadishu deputy governor, Mohamed Abdullahi Tulah and officials from security agencies.
The minister and other officials visited several neighbourhoods in Daynile and Warta-Nabada districts.
On his part, Benadir deputy governor said the tour of the officials was to inspect the security and discuss the security forces in those areas.
“We have specifically visited Warta-Nabada and Daynile districts; there have been ongoing security operations in the districts recently, the forces in collaboration with the locals have been doing the operations,” he said.
Somali forces have recently stepped up operations to smoke out al-Shabaab elements from Mogadishu and parts of southern Somalia.
On Thursday, Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said its forces detained two suspected al-Shabaab amniyat members in the outskirt of Mogadishu.
