ISTANBUL (Halbeeg News) – Somali minister for Health, Fowzia Abukar has held talks with her Turkish counterpart in Istanbul.
In a Twitter post on Wednesday, the Somali health ministry said Ms Abukar has discussed with Turkish Minister for Health over wide range issues.
The two leaders exchanged views about their respective ministries and cooperation between them.
Among other discussed issues are collaboration and Turkish support.
“Bilateral meeting between H.E. @AbikarDr and her Turkish counterpart H.E. @drfahrettinkoca. Discussions covered how to improve collaborations between the two sides as well as expanding Turkish role in supporting the Somali health sector,” the post reads.
Somalia and Turkey enjoy very close strong diplomatic, economic and defense relations since the high profile visit of the Prime Minister who is the current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2011.
The Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu is the largest Turkish embassy in the world.
Its international cooperation agency, TIKA, is also involved in the rebuilding of Somali national assembly apart from the humanitarian activities.
According to Turkish Foreign ministry website, Turkey has provided over $500 million in aid to Somalia and helped the Somali people in such areas as education, health, roads, ports, airports, fisheries, and energy since 2011.
