MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali forces killed an al-Shabaab commander and several fighters following clashes with the group in the Lower Shabelle region, the Information ministry confirmed Monday.
Somali Deputy Information, Abdirahman Yussuf Adala said the forces destroy al-Shabaab bases during the operations which took place in areas between the K60 locality and Shalanbod town.
“SNA forces killed the al-Shabaab terrorist commander and his militias, destroying checkpoints in which the terrorists were taking extortion money, the operations are aimed at opening key routes in the region”, Adala said.
The remarks of the minister come barely two days after the Somali military claimed to have killed over 210 al-Shabaab fighters
The Somali military’s land forces commander, Gen. Mohamed Tahlil said that the army killed 67 al-Shabaab fighters in the Middle Shabelle region, bringing the number of al-Shabaab fatalities to 217 in less than a week.
