Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – The federal government of Somalia has taken steps aimed at addressing challenges posed by illegal checkpoints on farmers in Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.
In a statement, the federal government noted that illegal checkpoints have disrupted agricultural production and economic activities.
President Mohamud has called for immediate measures to remove these checkpoints, which he described as a significant barrier to Somalia’s economic potential.
During a recent National Security Council meeting, President Mohamud stated that his government will enhance national security and support agricultural across the country.
The NSC meeting focused on the country’s transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to a Somali-led security framework under the African Union Somalia Mission (AUSSOM).
Discussions emphasized strengthening Somali security forces, advancing reforms, and ensuring a smooth handover of security responsibilities.
The National Security Council committed to’ intensifying reforms to professionalize Somali security forces, ensure a coordinated and seamless transition from ATMIS to AUSSOM and to liminate illegal checkpoints to enable farmers to contribute fully to Somalia’s economy.
