Somali government on Thursday announced that it has started registration of foreigners in the country.
Mohamed Adan Jim’ale, Director of Immigration and Citizenship of Somalia who spoke to media said the government is carrying out registration of foreign nationals in country.
The director noted that there are criminals from foreign countries who hiding in Somalia.
“We are conducting registration exercise of foreigners in the country, there are number of foreign individuals who committed crimes in their countries and sought hide-out in Somalia and it is important for the Foreigners to abide by the constitution of the country,” he said.
He noted that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that the foreigners are not troubled in this country.
According to the director, the government is seeking to have records showing foreigners in the country so as to analyze the statistics of growth and development,
In January this year, federal Ministry of Health had issued a decree that directed the foreign medical staff and their health centers to register with the ministry in order to assess the quality of their education and the services they offer.
The official statement from the health ministry clearly indicated the mandatory of the move for the foreign medical staff working in Banadir region and its environs to register with the ministry within a period of one month following the release of the decree.
The requirements needed for the registration process include a CV, medical certificate, a recommendation letter from a Medical Board, passport copies and letter of Good Conduct.
