MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Somali government has confirmed the death of top of Islamic State leader killed in an airstrike in the northeastern part of the country.
In a statement, Somali ministry for information said US forces in coordination with Somali troops killed deputy leader of ISIS operating in Bari region.
The government noted that the leader was killed in an airstrike which took place on 14th of this month in Hiriro neighbourhood.
“Somali Security forces in coordination with the U.S forces have killed a high-ranking commander of the Daesh terrorist group in a raid in Hiriro neighbourhood, Iskushuban, Bari province,” the ministry said in the statement.
The move comes barely ten hours after Puntland state confirmed the airstrike against an ISIS leader in Bari region.
Speaking to VOA Somali, Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan, security Minister of the Puntland state said that the airstrike that killed Abdihakim Mohamed Ibrahim, known as Dhoqob, took place Sunday between the villages of Hol Anod and Hiriro.
Gallan said the strike hit the vehicle Dhoqob and another passenger were travelling in. He said both men were killed, but the other
the person has not yet been identified.
