MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The Somali government has strongly condemned the foiled coup in neighboring Ethiopian Amhara state on Sunday.
In a message posted in Somali Presidency official tweeter account, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo sent his condolences to government and people of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia.
“H.E President Mohamed Farmajo sends sincere condolences to the Govt and the people of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia over the killing of security & administrative officials.” Villa Somalia Press Director, Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed said.
“H.E condemns the attempted coup in Amhara Region & stands in solidarity with the people of Ethiopia.” He added.
The diplomatic enjoyments between Somalia and Ethiopia have tremendously improved since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power one year ago.
The countries together with Eritrea formed a new economic alliance in the horn of Africa region for cooperation.
The Ethiopian Army chief, General Seare Mekonnen, Amhara state president, Ambachew Mekonnen and advisor, Ezez Wasie were killed on Saturday in Addis Ababa and Bahr Dar respectively.
Several people were arrested in connection to the attempted coup and killing according to Ethiopian Prime Minister Spokeswoman Billene Seyoum.
