MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire on Friday said his government has successfully managed to get rid of ghost workers in the country’s armed forces.
Speaking at Roundtable On Debt on Friday, PM said Somali government came up with well-charted plan to reduce corruption and mismanagement.
He noted that the government through Finance Ministry blocked millions of USD used to be funneled to ghost workers.
“Through SNA biometric registration, soldiers are paid straight to their bank account. We save $2 million every month but no ghost workers receive salaries intended for our army” the premier said.
The PM also lauded the country’s private sector for its resilience and sacrifice for decades without government support.
During his speech, he also praised the World Bank and International Monetary fund for their commitment to reforms and support to the horn of Africa nation.
PM Kheire called on international fund institutions to back Somalia’s efforts to rebuild its economy which was ruined in 1990 when the civil war broke out in Somalia.
“I hope that you stand with Somalia in this crucial time in our history,” he said.
