Somali government has postponed today’s national examinations across the country following heavy rains in several parts of the country.
Over 27,000 students in Jubbaland, Southwest, Hirshabelle, Galmudug states and the capital on Saturday started their final form four examinations.
In a statement, Abdirahman Dahir Osman, Somali minister for Education said the exams slated for Sunday have been cancelled over heavy rains that have been pounding in Mogadishu and other parts of the country.
” We hereby inform the supervisors, invigilators as well as students that exams scheduled for Sunday have been postponed as many parts of the country experienced heavy rains (in the last 12 hours),” reads the statement in part.
The ministry did not mention the date when the exams will resume.
Initially the ministry planned the examinations to run for five days.
The government is conducting centralized examinations cross the country for fifth year since 2015 when Somali government started unified exam for first time in more than two decades.
Somalia is struggling to revive its education system as the country is recovering from two decades of civil war
