MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government has appointed Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi as the country’s next governor of Central Bank.
In the weekly meeting of Somalia’s cabinet, the ministers approved Mr. Abdullahi to be the next leader of the top financial institution.
The head of the Bank who is the chief executive officer of the CBS will be responsible for the management of the bank under the general direction of the Board of Directors.
The Governor also serves as the Chair of the Board and is the principal representative of the CBS in its relations with the Federal Government of Somalia, other public entities, and bodies and international financial institutions.
Mr. Abdullahi who is Somali citizen is said to be financial management and banking expert.
He has been working for the last 2 yrs as a senior economic policy adviser to the office of the Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire for the previous two years.
Mr. Abdullahi will be filling the position in the central bank’s governorship whose head, Bashir Isse Ali’s term ended last November after attaining the mandatory terms of 4 years.
Bashir Isse Ali who has been serving the office since former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon appointed 2013.
In 2009, the Somali government revived the bank as part of its campaign to restore the national institutions.
The central bank of Somalia which has been operational for the past eight years has started initiatives to print new currency for the country.
