GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – At least 10 al-Shabaab fighters and dozen other injured after heavy fighting Somali forces in northeastern Somalia, official confirmed.
Hussein Ali Mohamud, Bari police commissioner who spoke to the media said the fierce fight which took for hours took place Thursday and Friday at Galgala Mountains as the army was making operations.
He said the forces also capture several fighters alive.
“The fight lasted for several hours, our forces inflicted severe casualties on the militants during the confrontation, killing 10 of them and capturing fighters alive,” he said.
The commissioner vowed that forces will continue operations to clear al-Shabaab fighters and other groups from Galgala mountains.
Somali forces have recently stepped up operations against al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters in different parts of the country.
Galgala mountains is a strategic area of Bari region where al-Shabaab and so-called Islamic State fighters have been using as hideouts for several years to launch attacks on Puntland forces.
