Somali forces on Monday night repulsed Al-Shabab attack on their base in Busar village of Gedo region.
Military officials who spoke to media said SNA soldiers have engaged gun battle that lasted for an hour with Al-Shabab fighters who attacked SNA military garrison.
Mohamed Ali, a military officer confirmed casualties on both sides saying over seven combatants were killed during the attack.
“Al-shabab attempted to attack our base in Busar but we repulsed, yes, there was fighting which lasted for about two hours, we have killed seven Al-Shabab fighters and several others wounded. On our side we lost only one soldier and there were no injuries,” said Ali.
Al-Shabab on its pro-media claimed to have killed over six soldiers during the battle.
The attack comes barely two days after over hundred heavily armed Al-Shabab fighters carried three simultaneous attacks on AMISOM and SNA bases in Golwein, Qoryoley and Bulamarer town.
SNA and AMISOM officials said they killed over thirty Al-Shabab fighters and seized cache of weapons from the group.
On its part, Al-Shabab claimed to have killed 59 soldiers from Ugandan contingent.
Uganda which is the largest contributor of AMISOM forces was the first to send troops to Somalia in 2017.
