MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)-Somali forces in Mogadishu have detained three suspects linked to assassinations attempt in Mogadishu barely three days al-Shabaab stormed fortified hotel in Mogadishu.
The three were paraded to spoke to the media on Monday following their arrest by the forces.
Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, Benadir deputy governor who spoke to media, has confirmed that the three men were arrested following an immature assassination in Wadajir district Mogadishu.
“The men were arrested by Somali security forces after the three failed to kill a businesswoman near Khat market. Now they are being investigated,” Mohamed said.
Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu, Shueyb Mohamed Abdi, the first suspect has confirmed that he is a member of al-Shabaab hit squad saying he had been operating in the district for a while.
“I have conducted assassinations in this district. We were caught red-handed after an operation to killed a woman went wrong, and I was with another colleague,” he said.
He affirmed that he was working with several other al-Shabaab assassins operating sleeping cells in Wadajir district.
“Since I joined the group, I carried out four operations to kill people; they took place in Madina main market, two took place near Madina hospital, and the other one occurred another area in Madina,” he explained.
Another suspect, Ismail Mohamed Aways said that he had been a member of the group for a year.
“I was arrested after I failed to assassinate a woman said to be one of the electoral delegates. I was working with Shuceyb,” he said.
Al-Shabaab has been carrying out assassination attacks in Mogadishu since 2012 when the group’s fighters were dislodged from the city by Somali forces backed troops from African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)
