Somali forces in Southwest state have apprehended two Al-Shabab suspects in Baidoa, the Interim administrative capital of Southwest.
The suspects were reportedly arrested while planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on one of the roads that pass through the town.
Speaking to media, Nuradin Ga’ama, the spokesperson of Southwest state said the two were arrested by the security forces following tips off by the public.
“Today, our forces managed to arrest two individuals who wanted to conceal explosive on roadside, the forces successfully dismantled explosive gadgets which have cause massive destruction if detonated by these two suspects,” said Ga’ama.
He noted that the two will be arraigned in court after investigations into their cases conclude.
It is not the first time Somali forces foiled planned attack by Al-Shabab suspects in Southwest state.
Last Month, Somali military court sentenced convicts who were arrested while assembling explosive gadgets in Elesha Biyaha locality which is located in the outskirt of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Mohamed Abdirahman Mohamud who is bomb expert was sentenced to life in imprisonment whereas Mohamed Ali Abdi and Ahmed Adan Warer were slapped with 10 years in jail term each.
