Somali Minister for Finance Abdirahman Duale Beileh on Thursday held talks with delegates from European Union (EU).
EU is among the donors who agreed to pay 15% of Official Development Aid (ODA) to Somali government in 2014.
The minister and the EU officials discussed wide range issues including the bloc’s support, the progress achieved by Somalia as well as remaining challenges.
Beileh has appreciated EU’s support and efforts to help Somalia.
“Held discussions with @EU_in_Somalia colleagues on our current progress, remaining, challenges & further collaboration through budgetary support. The EU & its Member States are valuable supporters & contributors to #Somalia’s progress. We are committed to reforms for our future,” the minister said in a Twitter post.
Last month, the EU signaled €100 million aid for Somalia in a bid to fast-track the debt relief process.
The European Union agreed to contribute 100 million Euros to Somalia’s budget.
“In support of this process, the EU welcoming indications from key partners confirmed its commitment to discuss with the Federal Government of Somalia a package of up to €100 million in direct budgetary support,” the EU said in a communique after the conclusion of the High-Level Security Conference on Somalia in Brussels.
Somalia made a tangible improvement in the areas of public finance management and met IMF’s list.
IMF said Somalia’s public finance management is getting closer to international and regional standards and ready to handle a greater share of development assistance.
