BAIDOA (Halbeeg News) – Somali minister for Energy and minerals, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Lafta-Garen) has today resigned from his post to run for the presidential election of Southwest State.
In a press conference in Baidoa town, Mr. Lafta-Garen announced his bid to contest for the presidency of Southwest state.
“I thank Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire who chose me to lead this ministry same way today, I urged him to accept my resignation as I decided to take part in Southwest state elections,” said Mr. Lafta-Garen.
Mr. Lafta-Garen has been serving since may this year when Prime minister Kheire appointed him for the post.
The presidential election of Southwest is expected to take place on 17th November this year.
Robow will be facing an incumbent, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, and dozens of others of presidential aspirants.
Among those taking part in Southwest state presidential election is Al-Shabaab deputy leader, Mukhtar Robow who was cleared to run for the presidential election despite Somali government’s statement to bar him from the election.
Mukhtar Robow, also known as Abu Mansour, was the target of a $5 million US bounty before he defected from the Islamist group in 2013 and surrendered to the Somali government last year.
