KISMAYO (Halbeeg News) – At least fourteen al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several others were injured in an operation in southern Somalia.
The operations came a day after al-Shabaab suicide car bomb targeted a military base, killing two Somali soldiers and wounded several others.
The blast also invited a US military soldier, according to US AFRICOM.
Speaking the media, the commander of Danab forces commander in Jubbaland state, Ismail Abdimalik Moalim said the operation covered several village which lie 75km of Kismayu town.
The official stated the fighters were eliminated after they to resist saying several others escaped with injuries.
” The forces killed fourteen al-Shabaab fighters including two commanders, we have combed the whole area,” he said.
Prior the forces warned the public against using roads in Janay-Abdalle village saying all the roads within 5km of Jana Abdalle had been closed as they conduct an operation to clear Al-Shabaab militants from the area.
The claims by the forces comes hours after al-Shabaab fighters stormed Bal’ad town, prompting fierce fighting with Somali military.
According to Authorities, the fighting claimed lives of 14 al-Shabaab fighters and a military soldier.
Several other people including civilians sustained inuries during the fighting.
