MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) has said it considering relocating its office from highly fortified Villa Somalia to easily accessible area in the capital, Mogadishu.
Speaking during press conference on Tuesday, the chair of the commission, Halima Ibrahim said the poll body is working towards expanding its presence across the country to conduct its operations.
The call came after meeting between the commission and representatives of political parties that earlier raised concerns over the location of the electoral body office inside the green zone.
Halima Yarey urged the federal government support the commission in establishing fully fledged office accessible by all political parties.
Regional state administration apart from Puntland provide space for the commission to set up working space.
The commission has temporally registered more than 50 political parties.
The parties are required to have regional office across all states in the country.
Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has pledge to conduct one man one vote in 2021 elections during his election on February 2017.
