MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Independent Electoral Commission will elect new deputy chair on Sunday.
The move follows after the dismissal of the deputy chair, Sayid Ali Mohamed who has been serving the agency for years in January.
He was accused of misconduct and violation of the body’s by-laws.
In a letter signed by six members of the commission earlier this year, Mohamed was also removed from the membership of the commission.
Independent Electoral Commission is tasked to prepare the country for embracing general election.
The commission has so far registered over twenty political parties seeking to participate in next year’s election.
The electoral body took part in a parliamentary hearing last week in which its chair, Halima Ibrahim briefed the house of the state of 2020 election preparedness.
The National Independent Electoral Commission in accordance with article 111G of the constitution is tasked to organize, conduct, and monitor elections in the country.
