MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Deputy Prime Minister Khadar Mohamed Gulaid has today held talks with UN envoy in Somalia, James Swan.
The leaders discussed wide range of issues including moving forward on the Somalia’s upcoming electoral process.
“Pleased to meeting today with @UN #SSRG Amb. james swan at my office. We have discussed a range issues including elections and carrying Somalia’s reform agenda forward,” Gulaid said a Twitter post.
The meeting comes hours after reports of a government plan to meet opposition emerged.
Sources confirmed that the government is planing to hold talks with opposition leaders over disputed election process.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is said to have invited opposition members in Villa Somalia to address their concerns over electoral process.
Among those invited are the chairperson of Wadajir Abdirahman Abdishakur alongside his counterpart presidential candidates.
International community has been urging Somali government and other stakeholders to resolve differences with opposition members through dialogue.
Somali opposition parties have opposed the government Indirect Elections Team (FIET) to man the country’s parliamentary elections saying there are civil servants in the committee.
