MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – Somali Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled has lauded the historic diplomatic relations between his country and Italy.
Guled was speaking during the 73rd anniversary of Italian republic day celebrations held at the Italian embassy in Mogadishu on Saturday.
Senior Somali government officials led by Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Khadar, H.E. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, Speaker of the Upper of parliament and the members of the diplomatic core in the country attended the high-level event.
“We celebrated today the 73rd Anniversary of the Republic. A special thank to H.E. KhadarGulaid Dep. Prime Minister, H.E. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, Speaker of the Up. House for honoring us with their participation and to all Somali friends who renewed their friendship with Italy.” Tweeted the embassy after the event.
Somali police band became the traditional component of the Italian national day after they played the national anthems of both countries.
“In celebrating the National Day today the Somali Police Band played the National Anthems. We are grateful to the Band for having become a traditional component of our National Day in Mogadishu. Grazie!” the embassy said in a tweet.
Somalia gained independence from an Italian colony on 1st July 1960 before the northern part of the country now Somaliland gained their independence from Britain on 26th June 1960.
