MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Defense Minister, Hassan Ali Mohamed is expected to appear before the National Assembly’s Committee on Defense over atrocities committed Somali National Army (SNA).
Sadiq Warfa, the secretary of the committee who spoke to the media said the panel wants the minister to explain the recent incidents where the government soldiers whose primary duties were to protect vulnerable members of society killed several people.
The secretary underscored that they also will grill the commanders of the armed over the allegations surfaced against the army.
The grilling comes on the heel of horrid shooting dead of the 9-year-old Deeqo Dahir Ali in Mogadishu this month.
Somali government arrested four soldiers in connection with the murder of the young girl.
Police chief Bashir Abdi Mohamed vowed to prosecute anyone who shoots randomly.
“We won’t allow civilians to be killed by a gun which is supposed to defend them,” Mohamed said, “Killing people and running away has ended. We will arrest them and bring them into justice straight away.”
