MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali forces has destroyed a vehicle laden with explosives in Lower Shabelle following security operations, military officials confirmed.
The operations took place on Friday in Al-Shabaab bases in Torotorow town, according to Ahmed Abdullahi Nur aka Ber-yare, the commander of 16th battalion of Somalia’s Dahab commandos.
According to Ber-yare, the forces destroyed explosives suspected to have been destined for the capital Mogadishu.
“We have destroyed the base completely, the militants were busy assembling explosive at the time of the raid,” he said.
He confirmed that over five al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the operations.
The military officer said the forces were going on with operations in the regions to flush out the militants.
“We will not relent until we kick out all Al-Shabaab in the region,” added Ber-yare..
Somali military has ramped up offensives against the militants as the African Union forces continue with the draw-down.
