MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a new directive to all airline operators originating from Kenya directly to Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland state to make a stopover in the capital, Mogadishu.
Somali civil aviation authority (SCAA) statement directed all pilots to route via Mogadishu as government requirement.
It said all international flights originating from any point in neighboring Kenya first to route in Mogadishu before proceeding its journey.
“All flights originating from any point within Kenya directly to Kismayo are prohibited,” SCAA issued a notice to pilots.
The new directive comes a week after the Somali government filed a complaint against Kenya to the International civil aviation organization (ICAO) over violation of its airspace.
A Fokker 50, registered 5Y-JXJ in Kenya – flying under Air Operator Certificate of Jubba Airways that flew directly from Nairobi landed in Kismayo without transiting Mogadishu.
It was carrying Somali politicians that were scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the disputed election of Jubbaland regional leader, Ahmed Mohamed Islam.
Kenya will lose its voting right at UN aviation agency if found guilty.
