Somali cabinet on Monday appointed the commanders of Intelligence,police and custodial corps following an extraordinary meeting in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Hussein Osman Hussein named as the head of National Intelligence and Security agency (NISA), Bashiir Mohamed Abdi will lead the country’s law enforcement agency while Bashir Mohamed Jama’a was appointed as the head of custodial corps.
The first two posts had been vacant since October last year when the government sacked country’s chief intelligence and the police commissioner.
Hussein who will lead Somalia’s spy agency is the former deputy minister Health minister.
Also, the new police commissioner has served as deputy police commissioner before he was promoted to this position.
The predecessors of these officials Abdullahi Mohamed Sanbalolshe and Abdihakim Dahir head of NISA and Police chief respectively were sacked by the cabinet just days after the deadly truck bomb of 14th October.
The attack which was termed “The worst attack in the country’s history” occurred at Zoobe intersection, one of the busiest junctions in Mogadishu.
Over 500 people were killed and more than 300 others wounded in the attack.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility of the heinous attack though Somali government blamed Al-shabaab for carrying out the attack.
