ADDIS ABABA ( Halbeeg News) – Eight Somali air traffic controllers completed their course and graduated from Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority(ECAA) school on Wednesday.
Among them were two female officers who are expected to be part of the team to take the helm of Somali airspace.
Transport and Aviation Minister, Mohamed Abdullahi Omar was present at the graduation ceremony in Addis Ababa.
“Eight air traffic controllers who are citizens of Somalia graduated, Tilahu Adamu, an Ethiopian diplomat tweeted, adding that his country can also be an important partner reviving Somali Airlines.
Somalia relocated its airspace control from neighboring Kenya back into the country last year where The International Civil Aviation Organization was managing since the collapse of the central government in early 1990s.
Since then, international carriers such as Qatar Airways use Somali airspace as an alternative to avoid gulf borders due to the blockade imposed on Doha by Egypt, Saudi, UAE, and Bahrain.
